Unfortunately, not all startups are successful. But most of them finally find their place in the market.

All these companies have appeared together with the rise of the internet and mobile technologies. Currently, the Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT) Sector is developing as new sub-sectors appear. The new sub-sectors are virtual reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning, electronic payment systems, support of infrastructure, and cloud technologies. Other emerging and promising industries are blockchain, robotics, data analysis, big data, and social networking.

Emerging sub-sectors of TMT:

  • Cloud computing. The processing of the big numerical data requires special services that can compute all these numbers.
  • IoT (Internet of Things). This technology will simplify digital commerce and allow the customers to evaluate new goods properly.
  • Blockchain. This technology allows the business to monitor the transactions of digital money.
  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning). This technology will simplify the processing of big data.
  • Big data and analytics. The massive data exchange requires software that can process it.
  • AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality). AR uses real-world settings, and VR uses virtual ones. Both these spheres are important for the development of digital management, design, engineering, and e-commerce.

Nowadays, more and more spheres need digital support. The TMT sector provides services for the government, healthcare, financial and ecological spheres.  Most of these companies are situated in the USA and East Asia (South Korea, China, Japan).  Also, the Indian, Malaysian and Indonesian markets are growing and becoming more noticeable.

Problems in the Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT) Sector

The TMT sector is still a new industry and many aspects of this sphere require regulation and understanding. Digital technologies have created new risks.

Let’s take a look at the issues of the TMT Sector:

  • Legislative regulation. The standard penal code doesn’t cover all crimes related to the digital sphere. These crimes are theft of digital money, privacy violation, and data theft. To indicate a crime the jurist should be acquainted with the digital sphere and understand how it works. Also, the penal code needs new articles considering virtual technologies and describing digital crimes.
  • Protection of personal data. Social media and cloud services made the personal data of numerous users vulnerable for the attacks of criminals. The protection of personal data is a new challenge for the digital world. Digital companies offer numerous services for safe data storage. They are protected by difficult passwords and restricted access.
  • Remote work and communication with clients. The work in the TMT sector doesn’t require the full-time presence of the employee. They can do their job from home. However, some questions require quick and constant communication which may be hard to achieve at distant work. Also, at distant work, it is harder to divide the fields of personal life and professional life.
  • Ownership of intellectual property. The protection of copyright rights became a huge issue. The development of the internet has allowed many authors to increase their audience. But at the same time, piracy became omnipresent. Now, various streaming services provide artists the opportunity to make money through their occupations. Piracy remains, but it is an infinite source of the new audience.
