Xetra
XETRA (Deutsche Börse Xetra) is an electronic trading system. It is designed to trade most of the financial instruments on the world's leading stock exchanges.
Xetra explained
The Xetra trading system appeared in 1997 and was developed by Deutsche Börse. It was originally created for trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FRA). Over time, the capabilities of the software were expanded and traders gained access to other trading floors in Europe.
In 1997, the Xetra system was introduced on the FSE. Thanks to its simplicity combined with high reliability, the system quickly gained respect among traders, because it is very convenient to work in the system, and any operation can be performed from anywhere in the world.
The Xetra electronic system allows to work with a wide range of German and international securities. All orders received from market participants are entered into a special log of the platform and are executed almost instantaneously. Xetra’s current workload is about 1.3 million transactions per day.
More than 250 professional participants from 19 countries of the world are connected to the Xetra system. Already today almost 5000 traders are working on Xetra with the official permission to work on the platform. Financial companies, large financial services companies and banks.
The number of European exchanges connected to Xetra is also wide as there are more than 20 of them. It includes Deutsche Börse AG, Frankfurt, SIX Swiss Exchange, Shanghai Stock Exchange and Eurex.
The electronic system allows participants to trade a variety of securities. However, the functions of the unique platform are not limited to this - it also allows to trade in raw materials and commodities, purchase or sell electricity contracts.
The Xetra system continuously records all sales and purchases into the so-called general order book. When a suitable counter-order is received, the system itself executes it. In this way, Xetra is able to lead the turnover to the highest possible value. Even if you execute transactions with securities with low liquidity, your transaction processes will still work.
Speaking about the Xetra software, it is necessary to note that it has a modular structure and can increase and expand its functionality by including additional functions.
