Vitalik Buterin proposes dramatic Ethereum bandwidth increase

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has declared the need to increase the gas limit on the mainnet blockchain by 10 to 100 times. According to the developer, this change would significantly improve network performance and enhance its scalability.

The current gas limit stands at approximately 36 million units per block, which constrains the number of transactions processed. Under the new increased parameters, the network would demonstrate a significantly superior capability for parallel data processing. However, implementing such a substantial change requires overcoming multiple technical challenges.

The core challenge lies in optimizing real-time proving systems. Current solutions consume approximately 100 kilowatts of electricity, which make them impractical for mass adoption. Furthermore, these systems only maintain stable operation under average loads, failing during peak demand periods.

Addressing these technical hurdles will mark a critical milestone in Ethereum's evolution. Successful implementation of these enhancements will create a more efficient and scalable blockchain infrastructure, positioning the network to meet growing user demands.
