Brent crude sell-off targets $105

Brent prices are currently dancing around $109 per barrel, having retreated from a recent local peak of $120. Geopolitical tensions persist, but the mood in the oil market appears rather bearish, signaling a probable continuation of the decline. What keeps pushing crude lower? A potential diplomatic settlement of the Middle East crisis and the risk of sluggish global fuel demand.

The market is focused on negotiations between Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. The parties are intended to find ways to de-escalate the conflict and restore regional security. Prospects for a diplomatic settlement are gradually reducing the geopolitical premium embedded in oil prices. If the talks lead to an agreement, concerns over supply disruptions could ease, pushing Brent crude into a correction.

An additional negative factor is the worsening outlook for global oil demand. Elevated fuel prices, slowing economic activity, and weak consumption of petroleum products are now limiting Brent’s growth potential. If the situation in the Middle East stabilizes, investors’ attention may shift to the fundamental balance of supply and demand once again.

Fortunately, the crude market still has several tailwinds, such as the decline in US oil inventories. During the week ended October 16, commercial stockpiles fell by more than 3 million barrels. However, if geopolitical tensions ease further, this factor alone may prove insufficient to resume growth.

The final recommendation:

— Sell Brent crude at the current price of $109.00, targeting $105.00 within a couple of weeks.

— Place Stop Loss at $112.35 to manage risks if the market moves against us.
