Invest in USDCAD with 1.41250 target

USDCAD is currently hovering around 1.40700. The pair is caught in a tug-of-war between competing fundamentals, with each side pulling it in a different direction.  So, which force will ultimately win out?

Let's start with the Canadian story. Its latest data has been surprisingly strong. May GDP expanded by 0.3%, and preliminary estimates point to a robust 3.4% annualized growth in the second quarter (Q2). Add to that a C$3.86 billion trade surplus in June—the widest in four years—and the case for an imminent interest rate cut by the Bank of Canada (BoC) looks shaky at best. This is a tailwind for the loonie. However, the good news comes with a catch: Brent crude has slumped below $80 as hopes of a US‑Iran diplomatic breakthrough take hold. Since oil is a cornerstone of Canadian exports, this slide weighs on the trade balance and clearly hurts the currency, keeping USDCAD underpinned.

Across the border, the greenback is finding support from a sharp climb in American government bonds. The 20‑year yield has surged to 5.15%, driven by lingering concerns over sticky inflation, a swelling government debt load, and the Federal Reserve's (Fed) unwavering hawkish posture. The sell‑off in long‑dated bonds has widened the gap between US and Canadian Treasuries, making dollar‑denominated assets more attractive to global investors. As long as American yields stay elevated, the greenback will hold the upper hand.

Technically, USDCAD has bounced off the key 1.4000 support and is slowly grinding higher. Confirmation is coming from momentum indicators: the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has climbed above the neutral 50 mark, signaling building buying pressure, while the MACD Indicator has crossed into positive territory—a clear sign that bullish momentum is taking shape.

The ultimate recommendation is to buy the USDCAD pair at the current price (1.40700), targeting 1.41250 within one month. To keep risk in check, place a Stop Loss order at 1.40000.
