Amazon's fleet of electric vans has been growing rapidly since it announced its partnership with Rivian Automotive. The new zero-emission vehicles have already been used by retail giant Amazon to make more than 5 million deliveries in the U.S.
Soon shoppers will begin to notice vans delivering New Year's gifts and packages in cities such as Austin, Boston, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Madison, Newark, New York, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Portland, Provo, and Salt Lake City. This expansion comes as Amazon and Rivian successfully implement plans to put thousands of cars on the road by the end of this year and 100,000 cars by 2030.
Udit Madan, vice president of Amazon Transportation, said the company is always in awe of the holiday season, but this year they will be delivering goods to customers nationwide in their new low-emission vehicles for the first time. He said the company has already delivered more than 5 million packages using Rivian vehicles, and that's just the beginning — that number will grow exponentially as they get closer to their goal of 100,000 vehicles.
