Apple plans to purchase chips from plant in Arizona

According to a report provided by Bloomberg News, Apple Inc. is planning to start purchasing chips used in its gadgets from a plant, which is now being constructed in the Arizona territory of the U.S.

In addition to that, the report also noted a possibility of Apple expanding its chip supply from Europe. This assumption is based on Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook’s statements made during an internal meeting with local representatives of the technological segment in Germany. Apple's representatives declined commenting on the matter, as reported by Reuters.

As it was also mentioned in the Bloomberg report, it’s highly probable that Tim Cook meant a plant in Arizona that would eventually be managed by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC). The mentioned company is the most prominent contract chip producer among all, and it is also noted to be Apple’s main supplier.

TSMC announced the beginning of its plant construction in Arizona last year, and stated that it intends to pour $12 billion into building its computer chip factory. TSMC also told about its intention to start mass production of chips utilizing a specific 5-nanometer production technology.
