A report on this calendar event is released monthly by the Statistics South Africa.

The indicator evaluates changes in the production of minerals by mining enterprises. It is based on information from the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE).

The indicator is used in calculations to estimate gross domestic product (GDP).
