Mexico will not approve new metal mining concessions

Mexico will not issue new licenses for metal mining, said President Claudia Sheinbaum. Additionally, the government intends to review existing projects to assess their impact on the environment, which will help determine whether they can continue operations.

Sheinbaum noted that open-pit mining requires efforts to reduce harmful emissions and comply with existing environmental regulations.

According to S&P Global Market Intelligence, the North-American country ranks first in the world for silver production and is a significant source of copper, zinc, lead, and gold.

Previously, the CAMIMEX association reported that under the former president, the country's mining sector suffered losses amounting to $4.5 billion.
