Today’s publication of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes is destined to shape the EURUSD pair’s trajectory over the coming weeks. The market appears agitated and rather bullish ahead of the release, with technicals pointing to a potential surge.
The key question of the day is whether the Federal Reserve (Fed) will signal a shift in its monetary path amid signs of a cooling US economy. Investors will be scanning for any hints, paying particular attention to the following factors:
Signs of policy easing. The Fed has kept borrowing costs in the 3.50%–3.75% range for quite a long time. If the minutes from the previous meeting reveal that most officials were concerned about the summer labor market deterioration and the potential need to lower rates in order to prevent further damage, American Treasury yields could decline, pushing EURUSD higher.
Scale of policy split. Investors are eager to gauge the balance between hawks and doves within the committee. If more officials grow softer, the greenback could lose its fundamental pillar of support.
The chatter surrounding the FOMC minutes has a direct effect on the monetary divergence between the United States and the eurozone. In case the Fed takes decisive steps to avoid a recession, the dollar index (DXY) is likely to keep falling.
Despite a slowdown in inflation, the European Central Bank (ECB) appears to be more steady, thanks to a stable consumer price growth in the services sector. The regulator’s cautious stance amid the Fed’s potential easing remains the pair’s key driver.
The overall recommendation is to buy EURUSD. Profits should be taken at 1.16100. Stop Loss could be set at 1.15650.
Always size the position so that your potential loss (protected by a Stop Loss order) is no more than 1% of your account balance. If you can’t open a position that meets such a risk criterion, it’s safer to skip this trade and wait for a better, lower-risk opportunity.
