Selling gold once $5,000 support level is breached

A glance at the hourly (H1) gold chart reveals a recurring pattern that has been present since late February. Prices have tested the $5,000 support level multiple times. And today appears to be another attempt to breach this threshold. The technical setup suggests that, this time, sellers may finally have the upper hand. Once this barrier gives way, the next target will be $4,940. Previously, when the precious metal settled firmly above $5,000, resistance transformed into mirror-like support. Market sentiment has shifted. Now, any price below $5,000 is considered “cheap”, triggering immediate buying on dips. As a result, a massive cluster of stop and limit orders is concentrated at this level. Major hedge funds and algorithmic trading systems have placed protective Stop Losses just beneath $5,000. If this floor is broken to the downside, it could trigger a cascade of sell-offs. Lots of Put and Call options are also tied to this strike price. On the other side of the fence, market makers are digging in their heels, fighting to defend this level and balance out risks. The result is a rock-hard barricade at $5,000.

However, keep in mind that this trade carries an elevated risk, as it runs counter to the broader trend. Fundamental factors continue to favor the precious metal against the US dollar. In other words, we are swimming against the current—so tread carefully.

The overall recommendation is to sell gold. Profits should be taken at $4,940. Stop Loss could be set at $5,080.

The volume of the open position should be calculated so that the potential loss (protected by a Stop Loss order) does not exceed 1% of your deposit. If your account balance does not allow opening a position of this size, it is better to avoid entering the market on this signal and wait for other trade options that meet low-risk criteria.
