Amazon closing facilities in Florida due to Hurricane Ian

Amazon is temporarily suspending work at some of its facilities as Hurricane Ian is about to reach Florida, CNN informed.

"We are monitoring the trajectory of Hurricane Ian and are making adjustments to our operations to ensure the safety of our employees and those who deliver goods to us," Amazon spokesman Richard Rocha told CNN.

"We are in constant contact with our employees and delivery partners to make sure everyone is aware of any closures or unsafe conditions and will continue to make adjustments as necessary," Rocha added.

CNBC reported earlier that Amazon closed warehouses near Tampa and Orlando. The publication referred to notifications sent to employees stating that Amazon is likely to leave the facilities closed until Friday.

According to Amazon, employees who have to work will continue to receive payment while the warehouses are closed. There are more than 8,000 full-time or part-time Amazon employees in the Tampa area.
