Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun said in a statement that U.S. regulatory agencies will approve the 737 MAX 10 before the end of the year. He also suggests that the smaller 737 MAX 7 will also be approved in the upcoming months.
Congress has set a deadline for getting certification for the two Boeing MAX variants at the end of December, before the new safety standard for in-cab warnings goes into force.
Calhoun confessed to journalists on the sidelines of the aviation event that there is still a possibility of not finishing the work by the deadline, but the company is working hard and intensively to make it happen. He believes Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval of the 737 MAX 7 will come before the end of the year.
If necessary, Calhoun is prepared to seek an extension of the review period for Boeing and make arguments based on the "safety to win" defense.
