On September 11, the Walt Disney Co, the world’s leader in the entertainment industry, outlined its plans to leverage modern technologies for improving storytelling in the next hundred years.
At the D23 Expo convention, a biennial event dedicated to the upcoming projects, CEO Bob Chapek described the vision for the Disney metaverse as "storytelling for the next generation." The company's plans include tailoring personalized entertainment to each consumer, based on data collected from visits to its own theme parks and streaming services, including Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm.
“Disney is a lifestyle,” Bob Chapek told Reuters at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. "The only matter is how to combine next-generation storytelling with Disney's unique style, while still providing the consumer's unforgettable experience."
Over the past year, the company has taken on a new strategy in earnest, appointing Mike White as Metaverse Curator. Currently, he is Disney's head of social media and entertainment, creating next-generation content and anticipating user expectations.
White has been also tasked with putting together a technical toolkit for creatives.
By the way, Mike White has already put forward the idea of using augmented reality and other digital innovations to bring a new facet to the Disney metaverse. Bob Chapek previously gave an example of introducing technologies to the corporation’s activities. So, last week Disney + premiered an 8-minute film with augmented reality.
“This could be a real breakthrough. The innovations are ahead by 5-10 years,” noted the company’s CEO.
