Woodside Energy greenlights construction of Louisiana's largest LNG plant

Australia's Woodside Energy has officially approved the construction of a $17.5 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Louisiana. The project received backing from President Donald Trump's administration, which has been really active in promoting growth in the energy industry.

Woodside CEO Meg O'Neill said Trump's current energy policies are creating a favorable environment for the initiative. Despite potential tariff challenges, the company is benefiting from secured contracts and pre-orders for necessary equipment.

The facility is likely to be completed by 2029, with an annual production capacity of over 24 million tons of LNG. This project is set to attract significant investment and create new employment opportunities in the region. Moreover, the facility will be located in a free trade zone, which will provide various customs perks.

Louisiana officials hailed the decision as the largest investment in the state's history. Governor Jeff Landry emphasized the importance of working with the federal government to unlock the nation's energy potential.
