Hot Asian summer to boost demand for US LNG — Reuters

Reuters reports that US liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, already at record highs in 2025, could rise further as Japan, South Korea, and China face above-average temperatures through August. The heatwave is expected to spike electricity demand for air conditioning, driving increased need for LNG imports.

The outlook offers timely support for US exporters, who have benefited from strong European demand but may see a seasonal slowdown there this summer.

Asian importers typically boost LNG purchases in May-July to prepare for summer power demand. Kpler data shows US LNG exports to Asia averaged 2.23 million tons monthly from 2021 to 2024, but surged to 7.8 million tons monthly during peak summer months—highlighting LNG’s critical role in meeting seasonal energy needs.
