According to an official statement by Indian company GAIL, one of its terminals in the western state of Maharashtra—Dabhol—began operating year-round from June 2. Previously, the port was unable to receive liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes during the monsoon season. The pause in operations often lasted several months, Reuters reports.
In May, the company commissioned a breakwater facility that protects the terminal from high tides and allows ships to dock safely. According to the company's forecasts, the year-round operation of Dabhol should significantly increase its utilization.
GAIL estimates that the terminal's capacity will be increased from 5 to 6.3 million tons of LNG per year over the next three years.
