According to a senior industry ministry official, Japan has asked insurance companies to assume additional risks. Such a move was necessary to continue offshore military insurance for liquefied natural gas shippers in waters of Russian Federation.
Reuters reported that the Financial Services Agency and the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy sent the request to the general insurance association in Japan. Tokyo supports further imports of LNG from the Sakhalin-2 to Japan.
It is noted that the three insurance companies in Japan, wishing to stop covering the risks from next month, are currently discussing with other insurers to ensure these operations.
