According to Bloomberg News, liquefied natural gas production has recently begun by Gazprom. The first amounts were produced at a facility situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea not far from the starting point of the closed Nord Stream pipeline.
The details of the production were revealed during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, at which Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Gazprom, stated that about 30 thousand tons of the super-chilled fuel were produced by two production lines at Portovaya LNG facility. He added that a tanker has already arrived to the place, and another one is heading towards the facility. The final destination of sais tankers wasn’t announced, though.
The production facility, mentioned by Markelov, is placed near the Portovaya compressor station, which is where the start of the Nord Stream pipeline, laid in the international waters of the Baltic, is located. The reported capacity of the facility is stated to be 1.5 million tons per year, which is less than a fifth part of capacity of the Sakhalin-2 facility, which is also owned by Gazprom and located in Russia’s Far East. Supplies of the super-chilled fuel produced by the Portovaya facility are planned to be delivered to Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation.
