Space policy of New Zealand is under review, new space strategy is expected

New Zealand's government announced plans to develop the space industry. Under this announcement, it plans to review the country's space policy and develop an aerospace strategy.

In 2019, a report provided the New Zealand government with information about a small but growing space industry that generated an estimated NZ$1.75 billion ($1.06 billion) in income in the 2018-19 fiscal year.

According to Assistant Minister of Transport, Kieran McAnulty, New Zealand is an ideal location for aerospace activities because of the country's geographic diversity and clear skies.

"The government's aerospace strategy ensures that regulations remain targeted and advanced aviation technologies will be integrated into transportation systems without impacting the airspace users."

The Civil Aviation Authority will receive NZ$3.7 million to develop a program for improving the regulatory capacity.
