People's Republic of China (PRC) President Xi Jinping is planning to hold bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The two leaders' meeting will be the latest in a series of summits that seek to ease tensions with U.S. allies.
China and Japan have the status of Asia's two largest economies. And the summit is expected to be the first in three years since the start of the pandemic. The negotiations will take place a few days after Joe Biden's conversation with Xi Jinping. The U.S. president expressed his hope that the countries are likely to avoid a "new cold war."
Official data revealed that the two leaders are scheduled to meet as part of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. The venue will be Bangkok, Thailand.
Although the Japanese government is cautious with China, its biggest trading partner, Tokyo has spoken out against Beijing's actions related to the suppression of pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong. Japanese authorities said that any potential military aggression against Taiwan would be regarded as a threat to their own security.
