Le Figaro: American tariffs hit French businesses

French newspaper Le Figaro has published an article revealing troubles the European business community is facing due to measures taken by the new administration of the United States.

The journalists noted that French companies had welcomed the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States with optimism and had not expected the trade policy tightening actually taking place. However, after the US started implementing the promised import duties, businesses in France were forced to urgently adapt to the situation and reconsider their strategies.

For instance, the newspaper quotes Alexandre Saubot, the head of France Industrie, who said that there is a ‘strong uncertainty’ caused by Trump's actions, affecting the business. Saubot also mentioned the difficulties in managing the company under the current circumstances.

Along with talking to the country's entrepreneurs, Le Figaro journalists drew attention to the economic performance of French companies, which is declining due to poor sales in the United States. Against this background, commercial organizations in France are reducing investments in the US market and cutting spendings, while considering restructuring.
