According to crypto-industry veteran Anthony Pompliano, founder and CEO of Professional Capital Management, lagging of bitcoin behind gold may soon be over. He says historical trends point to an impending surge in the main cryptocurrency's profitability.
Pompliano noted bitcoin's drop of about 10% since the beginning of the year, while gold has risen 20%. On a year-to-date basis, however, both assets have gained about 35%. He explained that gold is usually the leader of such rallies, followed by a stronger, delayed bitcoin move that overtakes the precious metal's momentum after about 100 days.
As Pompliano pointed out, central banks and institutional investors still mostly lean toward gold during geopolitical crises due to regulatory constraints or deep-seated habit of avoiding risk. However, he believes historical patterns suggest explosive bitcoin growth in the near future.
