Shell, the leading operator of US offshore oil production projects, has announced a delay in the startup of two wells at the Great White project of the Perdido field. According to the company's most recent information, they will be commissioned by the end of the year, instead of the initially planned April.
Technical difficulties encountered in the development of the field in the Gulf of Mexico led to the adjustment of the work schedule. Only one of the project's three planned wells was successfully launched in March. At the same time, the overall performance of the operated well has not yet reached the estimated levels. According to the original plans, the three wells were to provide a total output of up to 22,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Reuters recalls that the Perdido field development was started in 2010. It produces up to 125,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day at full capacity. Delays in commissioning new wells may temporarily affect the company's output volumes in the region, the news agency notes.
