On Wednesday, the US Interior Department announced the discovery of significant unexplored oil and gas reserves in the American states of Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. The discovery is of particular relevance given Donald Trump's intention to strengthen the country's status as one of the leading energy powers, according to Reuters experts.
A study by the US Geological Survey showed that these states have 473 million barrels of oil and 27 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Since these areas were first explored in the 1950s, about 90 million barrels of oil and 7.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas have been recovered. Consequently, a substantial portion of these reserves have remained untouched, Reuters clarifies.
According to US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, the growth of oil and gas production capacity in the country will support its energy independence. Besides, increased fuel output will have a favorable impact on the US economy, the news agency's experts note.
