Isabel Schnabel, a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB), stated that the current moment presents an ideal opportunity to strengthen the euro's position. Speaking at the 31st Economic Conference in Dubrovnik, she noted the increased attention of many investors to the European currency for diversifying their portfolios.
These remarks overlap with statements from other policymakers, including ECB President Christine Lagarde. In late May, Lagarde characterized the current period of trade tensions as a "perfect opportunity" to bolster the euro's standing in global markets. According to Bloomberg data, many investors have begun shifting away from the dollar in favor of other currencies, leading to its significant weakening.
Furthermore, in recent weeks Schnabel has also stressed the importance of establishing a European bond market and issuing joint debt as additional measures to strengthen the eurozone economy.
