UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al-Mazrouei stated on Thursday that the country could expand its oil production capacity after 2027 if market conditions warrant it. According to Reuters, this potential growth could position the UAE among the world's top five crude oil producers.
This year, OPEC+ granted the UAE a substantial production quota following the government's announcement of major investments to boost its output capacity. The country plans to increase production from 3 million barrels per day (bpd) to 4.85 million bpd, with further expansion to 5 million bpd targeted by 2027.
Al-Mazrouei noted that depending on market demand, production could potentially reach 6 million bpd, enough to meet approximately 6% of global oil demand.
Reuters reports that OPEC+ has been gradually increasing oil output since April after maintaining production cuts for several years. The alliance plans to raise production by an additional 2.5 million bpd between April and September 2025.
