World fears new COVID surge in China, experts are eager to help

Global health experts are concerned about the spread of Covid in China. They are casting doubts over whether a sufficiently high proportion of the population is vaccinated (total population of China is about 1.4 billion) and whether the nation has medical equipment to fight a new wave of COVID-19.

Health experts from the US and Europe are pondering how to help China mitigate a crisis. In their views, it will cripple the global economy, worsen supply chain turmoil, and spawn new COVID-19 variants.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby noted Wednesday that they were prepared to help China deal with a surge of COVID-19 infections.

Health experts from other countries highlight that advance preparation of the healthcare system, accurate and shared data collection, and exchange of information between countries are key to controlling new outbreaks of COVID-19. They doubt that China has all of the above mentioned elements.
