France to face lower risk of power cuts in January

The country’s grid operator said that there was little prospect of power cuts in January as nuclear and hydroelectric output had rebounded and electricity demand had lowered.

The recent report by the operator RTE showed that France had less risk of being short of electricity. It previously warned that the French might be urged to cut energy use to avoid possible power cuts in the first half of January.

Thomas Veyrenc, executive director in charge of strategy at RTE, noted on Tuesday that it lowered its autumn forecast of power cuts for France. The country is now better prepared to deal with such stressful situations.

According to the operator, France will be at moderate risk of power cuts for the rest of winter if consumers continue to reduce energy consumption and gas supplies are uninterrupted. Electricity prices in France rebounded.
