The Department of Justice's (DoJ) antitrust suit against UnitedHealth was dismissed Monday. A federal judge ruled against the DoJ in blocking UnitedHealth's $13 billion acquisition of Change Healthcare.
The Justice Department said in its lawsuit that the deal would stifle competition and restrict innovation. The DOJ sued UnitedHealth, believing that the acquisition of Change Healthcare could make the organization a monopoly in some areas of health care.
With the dismissal of the lawsuit, the Justice Department needs to consider its next steps. UnitedHealth, for its part, was pleased with the court's outcome for obvious reasons.
The company said it was looking forward to teaming up with Change Healthcare, as it would help them work together to improve the health care system.
