Anatoly Yakovenko sees no necessity in Layer 2 solutions for Solana

According to Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, there is no need to create Layer 2 solutions for the network. He says that Solana as a Layer 1 blockchain can provide more efficient and more secure solutions than any Layer 2 protocol.

His position contradicts the current trend in the crypto community to use Layer 2 solutions for scalability and efficiency.

Yakovenko explains his stance by mentioning Solana's high-performance Layer 1 infrastructure and utilizing the Proof-of-History (PoH) protocol. The network already offers thousands of transactions per second and low fees without compromising security and decentralization, he notes. In his view, this gives Solana an advantage over other systems that use additional layers.

Layer 2 solutions are typically used to offload transaction volume and reduce fees on slower Layer 1 networks like Ethereum. However, they create additional complexities, including dangers connected to cross-chain bridges and transferring of assets. Yakovenko believes that Solana's built-in Layer 1 capabilities eliminate these problems, making Layer 2 unnecessary.
