Solana developers have announced preparations for the network’s largest upgrade, which will introduce a new consensus protocol called Alpenglow. This move aims to significantly increase transaction processing speed and expand the platform’s capabilities for real-time applications, Coindesk reports.
The implementation of Alpenglow will enable near-instant transaction finality through two key components: Votor and Rotor. Votor handles block finalization, confirming transactions within 100–150 milliseconds. Rotor improves data propagation across the network, minimizing delays in information dissemination.
Experts at Coindesk believe the increased network speed will pave the way for new types of applications. The growing interest from developers is expected to increase network load and boost demand for SOL tokens. Anza, the team behind the upgrade, notes that successful deployment will strengthen Solana’s position as one of the most performant blockchain platforms today. Exact timelines for the rollout remain uncertain.
