Solana update to expand block capacity by 20% and improve developer tools

Yesterday, the Helius development team dedicated to Solana informed about the release of Agave v2.2, an update to the validator client. The new version will boost block capacity by 20%, as well as make other improvements to scalability and network throughput.

Specifically, block limits will be increased from 50 million to 60 million compute units to increase throughput. The network will be able to handle more transactions per second, thus expanding its scalability. This will also provide relief from the congestion that had previously caused problems in the blockchain.

The network will also abandon the concept of Merkle trees in favor of account lattice hash. This means that when accounts are updated, only changes will be tracked rather than all data. This will significantly reduce the processing load.

For developers, this update will improve operations in several ways. First, they will now be able to pause and update applications when bugs are detected without deleting them. Moreover, developers will have the opportunity to update small parts of an application without reloading the entire codebase, saving computing resources.

For users, the new Solana update offers support for passwordless login via Passkeys.
