Tesla Inc begins production of commercial electric trucks. According to Elon Musk, PepsiCo Inc will receive its first deliveries of trucks on December 1.
When Elon Musk unveiled the futuristic truck prototype in 2017, he said the product would be in production by 2019.
Despite this promise by Musk, the deadline was pushed back several times due to lack of parts. Later, the CEO of Tesla Inc said that production of the trucks would be delayed. In August, he announced that production of the truck was under development.
Musk has confirmed that the electric truck has a range of 500 miles or 805 km. The number of semi-electric trucks that the electric vehicle maker plans to produce is still unknown.
The truck will presumably cost $180,000, although it will qualify for a tax break of up to $40,000 under the Senate-approved US subsidy program.
In an effort to reduce fuel costs and emissions, PepsiCo reserved 100 of Tesla’s semi-electric trucks back in 2017.
