Walmart introduced a new platform for influencers — Walmart Creator.
On Tuesday, the retail giant announced the launch of a beta version of the platform that allows social media influencers to earn money by sharing and promoting Walmart products. The website is likely to be fully launched in 2023.
As reported by William White, Walmart marketing executive, the customers are inspired by the content of the social media influencers. The influencer marketing will make it possible for the retailer to build bridge between customers and their favorite celebrities that will recommend brands they love at Walmart.
Users of the platform will be able to share product links to any social platform they want. In addition to this, creators will be able to get insights from analytics and earn commissions for every product purchased from their page. They can also apply to participate in upcoming brand campaigns. There is no minimum social media following requirement or cap on commissions yet. However, Walmart didn't disclose exact amounts and terms.
The representatives of Walmart don’t comment on commission percentages for influencers. Nevertheless, they emphasize that they’re thrilled to help creators grow their businesses through the website.
The biggest threat of Walmart, Amazon, also launched the Amazon Influencer Program aimed at promoting the sharing of product-related content by influencers five years ago. Each category on Amazon has its own fixed commission rate for influencers — it may range from 2% to 20%.
