Selling natural gas with $2.800 in sight

US natural gas (NG) is currently languishing at some pretty dismal local lows, hovering around $3.00. This stands in stark contrast to the price fireworks in Europe and Asia, where LNG supplies through the Strait of Hormuz have been squeezed. Yet, the American market remains a quiet island, virtually untouched by the geopolitical storm raging elsewhere.

What's holding quotes in check, one may ask. A major bottleneck: US export terminals have already been running near full tilt. Even before tensions flared up in the Middle East, they were operating at 95%–98% capacity. As a result, there is simply not much spare room to quickly ramp up shipments and siphon more fuel out of the domestic supply anytime soon.

Adding to the stability, gas storage levels are looking pretty healthy right now. By the time the heating season winds down, inventories are expected to sit around 1,840 billion cubic feet—in line with the five-year average. This paints a picture of a well-balanced market that is neither depleted nor overloaded. February's unusually mild weather deserves a mention here, too. In fact, it barely touched the thermostat, slashing withdrawals from storage and leaving an extra-comfy buffer in the tank.

Taking a step back with a fundamental analysis, the key drivers point to the United States NG market staying in equilibrium—with supply and demand dancing in step—through 2026. Steady production gains continue to feed the system, and ample storage cushions act as shock absorbers. All this setup could lay the groundwork for lower prices in the near term, especially once you factor in typical seasonal swings.

The ultimate recommendation is to sell natural gas with the $2.800 target within one to two months. To manage risk, place a Stop Loss order at $3.050 in case the market plays against us.
