The Microsoft company will abandon the Office brand, renaming it to “Microsoft 365”.
The regular set of apps, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, which previously Microsoft Office was consisted of, will remain unchanged. But the Office brand itself, according to the company’s announcement, will be removed after 30 years of usage.
Actually, the Office brand abandonment has been happening quite gradually. For instance, the company’s online subscriptions were renamed from “Office 365” to “Microsoft 365” about two years ago. However, now the brand will be abandoned completely and removed from the website Office.com, as well as from its mobile and Windows apps.
According to Microsoft, the rebranding will not only affect the name, but also the appearance of the site and apps.
At first, these changes will be applied to the website Office.com, which will be rebranded in November. Apps will be changed by January next year.
It’s important to mention, that the new name, as well as new appearance will be installed automatically. Users won’t have to do anything.
The Office brand will be partially preserved for one-time purchases. This way, customers still be able to get access to such sets as Office 2021 and others. At the same time, Microsoft will encourage clients to buy monthly subscriptions to “Microsoft 365”.
