Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from Alaska could begin in 2030, according to state Governor Mike Dunleavy in a recent speech. The $44 billion Alaska LNG project was endorsed by President Trump last week, Reuters reports. The initiative aims to deliver 3.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day from the North Slope Borough to international markets. This would require a pipeline more than 1,280 kilometers long, the agency said.
The Alaska government is currently negotiating with buyers from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and Thailand. According to Dunleavy, construction will begin in 2026, gas will start flowing by 2028, and construction will be fully completed by 2030, including the export facility.
As noted by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, the authorities are currently discussing measures to support the initiative. His department is considering the possibility of providing a loan for the project. According to Reuters, the initiative has received regulatory approval but faces opposition from environmental groups.
