European Commissioner for Energy stated region's dependence on gas supplies from Russia

As it was stated by Dan Jorgensen, European Commissioner for Energy, the member countries of the EU are still dependent on Russian gas. The official made the statement in a conversation with the Table.Media journalists.

However, Jorgensen emphasized the undesirability of maintaining this dependence and spoke in favor of increasing fuel supplies from other sources. According to him, the region has the capacity to import more energy from the United States. However, in parallel, he recognized the existence of the EU's dependence on shipments of liquefied natural gas from that country as well.

It should be noted that three years ago, the European Union launched the REPowerEU program, which implies the cancellation of gas supplies from Russia by 2027. According to Jorgensen, the region's authorities are preparing a detailed plan to phase out its purchases. The region's strategy, he said, will be soon presented.
