BA.4/5-adjusted COVID booster by Pfizer/BioNTech approved by European Union regulator

Just a few days after the EMA (European Medicines Agency) approved several boosters, which were specifically aimed at protecting from the old Omicron version BA.1, a new Covid-19 booster developed for targeting the presently spreading versions BA.⅘ have been recommended for use.

The recommendation applies to a bivalent type of vaccine, created by Pfizer and BioNTech particularly for the BA.⅘ version and also the initial viral strain, appeared in China at the end of 2019.

The recommendation implies the authorization of the use of said booster for further vaccinating of persons older than 12, who have already received at least one COVID-19 vaccination. It’s required for the booster to get an approval from European Commission, which is expected to take place soon.

According to the statement made by Pfizer, if the booster gets the necessary permissions, it will be made available in each of the European Union countries shortly after.
