Politico says that President Donald Trump’s administration is overlooking economic polling and insisting import tariffs and trade negotiations will benefit Americans and positively impact US GDP.
According to the CNN poll, approval of the current US leader’s economic strategy has reached a new low of 39%. The joint survey conducted by the Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos found that about 7 in 10 Americans now rate the economy negatively, with 53% saying the conditions have worsened since Donald Trump took office in January.
However, according to White House officials, the new US administration’s tariff policy will ultimately lead to a stronger economy and lower taxes for Americans. Trump claims that income taxes will be significantly reduced or completely eliminated for many US citizens. In addition, he emphasized that a large number of jobs are already being created and new plants and factories are being built.
Last week, the US leader also said he had negotiated trade agreements with 200 countries, refusing to name specific ones. However, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed only 17–18 deals.
