According to Scott Moe, the Premier of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, the region could increase oil production to 1 million barrels per day if regulatory requirements are eased.
During a conference in Calgary, the politician noted that the current target for energy carrier production—of 600,000 barrels per day—could be increased by 36%. This would only be possible after building pipelines and lifting emissions restrictions in the oil and gas sector.
Oil production in Saskatchewan has been declining after reaching a peak in 2013. At that time, output volume exceeded 500,000 barrels per day. According to the Canada Energy Regulator, in January of this year, the province produced about 442,000 barrels per day. Saskatchewan's oil output volumes pale in comparison to Alberta, which produces over 4 million barrels daily.
