According to forecasts, most of Europe will experience relatively warm weather during the holidays. Thus, the risk of heavy snowfalls at Christmas has lowered, and the European power grid’s stress might be mitigated.
The Maxar Technologies report is full of good news. Temperatures in Paris and Frankfurt are predicted to be 7 °C above average on Friday. The weather is predicted to remain similarly warm during the first week of January.
There is a chance that this forecast will mitigate the stress that had been put on Europe's energy system in early December after the first cold blast of winter. Gas prices in Europe are falling for the fifth day in a row, while gas storage is 83% full.
Since many companies do not work during the holiday season, the decrease in gas demand becomes extremely noticeable. The number of heating degree days are expected to be around 71.4 between Dec. 27 and Dec. 31. This is below the 10-year average of 76.4 days.
