Bloomberg reports that Asian investors are pulling back from US equities. This follows a period of active buying in April when US stocks declined due to aggressive tariff policies implemented by President Donald Trump. Despite concerns about a weakening dollar and Treasury market volatility, the S&P 500 has rebounded more than 20% since its 12% drop earlier this year.
For the first time since the beginning of Trump's second term, South Korean investors became net sellers of US stocks in May. Japanese traders similarly sold more US-focused ETFs than they bought, while Singaporean investors reduced their purchases by 25% compared to April, according to brokerage data.
South Korean traders sold over $1 billion in US equities, while Japanese investors offloaded $166 million worth, their largest divestment since April 2023. Bloomberg analysts note that the "buy-the-dip" momentum appears to be fading.
