Disney shared the upcoming release date for Avatar: The Way of Water in China

According to people familiar with the matter, Disney has unveiled the release date of the sequel ‘‘Avatar: The Way of Water'’ in China. It is a favorable event in a key market for the studio.

The film will be released in China on December 16. The company expects huge potential revenue from the showing due to the premiere in China. Previously, several of the studio's films did not make an appearance in China amid political tension between China and the United States. Restrictions imposed on Western studios negatively influenced box office earnings. Hollywood studios’ movies sometimes gross more in China than in the United States.

The studio's most recent film to premiere in China was ‘‘Encanto’’. It hit cinemas in January and grossed 76.7 million yuan ($11 million).
