Extreme weather could threaten LNG exports

A cold snap could test the Texas electric grid and curtail LNG exports.

These are predictions made by Kayrros, a geoanalytics company. According to the company's report, subfreezing temperatures and high winds seen in February 2021 resulted in an energy collapse in Texas and LNG exports plunge.

The report shows a chart with US LNG exports over the last four years. According to the chart, exports have surged in December to around 2020 December levels. However, they still don’t exceed 2021 December levels and first quarter 2022 levels.

The company said that US LNG exports helped Europe overcome hard times when Russia had cut gas supplies to Europe.

US LNG exports peaked in the first half of 2022, with facilities nearing maximum capacity.
