Chip producer Nvidia presents new platform allowing to drive autonomously

One of the most significant players of the microchip manufacturing market, Nvidia Corp, has presented its latest development, which is a new computing system named DRIVE Thor. The platform in question provides centralization of different driving systems, including autonomous and assisted ones, and has a range of other digital options, among which are entertaining elements.

The company, which is an established giant in the spheres of chip production and AI, has been significantly evolving in the automotive market. The mentioned area has been determined as the company’s major growth segment.

As it was stated by Danny Shapiro, Vice President of Nvidia’s Automotive, DRIVE Thor is capable to be utilized instead of many electronic elements and cables inside a car, which would help in shortening of the overall cost of a car system. He didn’t say anything about precise measures of such economy, though.

According to his words at a briefing, it’s possible to visualize in mind the volume of savings in relation to costs, in relation to reducing a number of microchips and wires, in relation to weight reducing, and in relation to increasing of the overall efficiency, including energy saving.

Shapiro also noted that the company’s current computing system, which is called DRIVE Orin, is agreed to be used for producing of a new smart sport utility vehicle by the Chinese manufacturer XPeng, as well as in the startup named QCraft from the same country. The startup focuses on autonomous driving too.
