Elon Musk’s plans for mass-production of self-driving Teslas by year-end

On Monday, Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk announced the company's plans for 2022. The development of autonomous driving technology for electric cars was the highlight of his speech. Musk aims to have its self-driving technology available in the U.S. and Europe after regulatory approval.

Giving a speech at an energy conference in Norway, Musk said that his complete focus was on the SpaceX Starship program and Tesla electric cars featuring self-driving technology.

"The two technologies I am focused on, trying to ideally get done before the end of the year, are getting our Starship into orbit ... and then having Tesla cars to be able to do self-driving," — Elon Musk said, revealing what he plans to do. However, he also stressed that mass production of autonomous vehicles in the U.S. and Europe would depend on the approval of regulatory authorities.

Earlier, the CEO of the company said that oil and gas extraction was of a high importance and it would allow us to sustain civilization. As reported by Musk, the development of sustainable energy sources is no less important.

According to him, humanity needs to use oil and gas in the short term. He argues that our civilization may crumble without fossil fuels.

Musk also commented on the issue of oil and gas extraction in Norway. He adheres to the opinion that we can come up with an environmentally-friendly solution by conducting additional exploration. In his opinion, the transition to green energy and to a sustainable economy are among the global challenges humanity has ever faced. According to Musk, it will take several decades to solve them.

In addition, he suggested that offshore wind farms in the North Sea together with stationary batteries could become an important alternative energy source.
