According to a statement made on Tuesday by Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki, it’s currently important for the country to give close attention to the defense budget. As it was said, Japan has to reconsider revenue and expenditure for the following years to ensure permanence of financial sources for the defense sector. He also underlined the importance of further reforming of spending for the same purpose.
As Suzuki noted in a conversation with reporters, in case there’s lack of financing sources, Japanese authorities will need to consider various ways of solving the situation, including taxation. All possible options will be discussed by a panel of experts and the ruling bloc.
Reuters reports that the conversation took place just prior to the arranged presentation by an expert panel’s for Japan’s defense buildup. During said presentation, the panel will submit its proposals to Fumio Kishida, Japan’s Prime Minister.
