Trump’s trade tariffs still pose significant risks to EU — Reuters

US President Donald Trump has temporarily suspended plans to impose 50% import tariffs on EU goods, granting additional time for negotiations between America and the 27-nation bloc to reach a deal, Reuters reports.

The trade conflict poses a serious threat to the EU, the agency comments. According to Eurostat, the United States was the European Union's top export partner in 2024, accounting for 20.6% of all EU shipments.

Reuters notes that medicinal and pharmaceutical products accounted for the largest share of goods sold to the US by the bloc last year. They were followed by motor vehicles, aircraft, and related equipment.

According to experts surveyed by the agency, European countries exported approximately $136 billion worth of pharmaceutical products to the United States in 2024. Additionally, consulting firm AlixPartners reports that the EU delivers about 750,000 vehicles to the US market each year.

Germany emerged as the eurozone's largest exporter to the United States, with shipments totaling $182.62 billion. Ireland followed with over $81 billion, while Italy exported $73 billion worth of goods.
